It’s been pretty quiet around here. Hopefully, you’ve been doing well. I’ve been dusting off the old blog recently and getting it up to speed again. I made a few changes to the website layout. I’ve gotten rid of the featured images which has hopefully made the site a little more responsive. The blog also has a slightly updated look.
So I guess I have some explaining to do. I’m sure the main question you must be asking is: “Why the long hiatus Marco?”. I know, it was a little impolite of me to just take off for a year without any notice wasn’t it. It’s actually been almost a year and three months since my last post on this blog.
I think it would be appropriate to use this post to answer the question above and let you know what plans are for this blog in the future.
So why did I stop blogging? Less time was one of the reasons. Last summer I was working 40 hours per week. It was the first time I ever had a “real” job. I was working at a call centre and when I would get home I felt quite drained. From May to early September, I was also playing soccer two to three times per week. I was actually playing for two teams at one point. Add summer socializing time to the mix and that leaves even less time for blogging. I thought of starting back up again last September, but I never did. To be honest, it was nice not having to write or think about the blog for a while.
The second reason I stopped blogging was that I did not like the direction in which the blog was going. Some of the posts I was writing did not feel genuine and seemed more like copy-cat posts from other blogs. That is why I got rid of a few posts while I was cleaning up the blog. I might have maybe been thinking more about page views when I wrote those posts. My intention when I started the blog in 2014 was for it just to be a personal blog about my journey “Toward Minimalism” that could also be useful to others along the way. As the blog grew and got a small audience, I was getting away from the initial purpose I had for this blog. I hope to just get back to writing freely, without worrying too much about the rest.
Lastly, my reflections about minimalism last year also led me to stop writing. I felt like I had to stop and ask myself “Why?”. Why minimalism? Why is it important? You would think I would have asked myself these questions before starting a blog about minimalism. Anyways, I can assure you that these questions have been cleared up in my head. I now have a slightly different perspective on minimalism and hopefully, you will start to see this in my next blog posts.
After a year away from the blog, I am excited to get back at it. Toward Minimalism will be different than it was before. As I said, it will have more of an informal feel. Some posts might be just a few sentences long and others could drag on. Most importantly, I will try to have fun with the blog. I think that was ultimately the main reason I stopped blogging. It was not as fun as it once was.
